Barack Obama Social Media Update - Lessons from the DNC
Below is this week's B2.0 update:
This week we're glad to have a conversation with James Andrews. James is Vice President at Ketchum Interactive, specializing in the creation of online media/blogger strategy, web/application development, and content production. James is also Founder of TheKeyinfluencer.com. Additionally James is an Expert Blogger for FastCompany.com.
With his unique perspective as a social media expert, James shares with us his professional and personal experiences attending last week's Democratic National Convention. James fills us in on how social media infused the event, how the Democrats embraced the blogger community, and how he used Twitter and Facebook to connect with people while at the convention. He also shares lessons he wants small businesses to learn from the Obama campaign's strategic use of mobile messaging as well as social media.
We also had the honor of having our original Barack 2.0 slide presentation featured on the homepage of SlideShare.net last week. Here it is below. Please feel free to download at your convenience:

Did anyone see these numbers out of the CTIA this morning? 75 Billion Messages for the month of June alone. Unreal. When we introduced Interlinked Media to the United States market in July of 2006, we (the USA) were only doing about 12 billion messages per month in the aggregate. When we convinced the Hillary Clinton campaign that they should be using text messages as a primary means of connecting with their voters, that number had "swollen" to nearly 18 billion messages per month. Now we have these numbers 75 billion messages for Juneā¦a 6 fold increase over when we started.
Is there any doubt that this medium is going to be around for a while? From Presidential campaigns to Brands it has been great fun to be working at the forefront of this technology. I can only imagine what the next three years will bring! Michael Anderson, VP Business Dev Interlinked Media. http://www.interlinkedmedia.com
Michael:
I was not aware of these numbers until now. Thank you.
This illustrates a fundatmental shift in the way we communicate and how are being communicated to. Point-to-Point, One-to-One is a reality now.
We are in the age of instant information. The companies that embrace this idea will surely capitalize. We are seeing this being used in the campaign masterfully.
The question is can and will the "larger business community" not only embrace but properly depoy the technology.
True. These next few years will be exciting for sure.

David Bullock
Mr. Bullock,
I was just introduced to Social Media "get to know how" last night and was referred to your site. I have read and listend and am so thankful to have found you. I am a 50 year old woman on the "Authenticiy Movement" and realize that web 2.0 is a necessary & valuable tool that I am learning now.
I am on linkedin, facebook, etc, etc. with profiles etc. but what to do next to generate a presence and generate revenue is what I am working on learning now.
Thank you for your good work, help, & generosity,
Tique Lee
Tique,
Web 2.0 - Social Media is all about connection. Now getting to the revenue within social media is a whole other story. Brent and I have worked hard to figure out a revenue model for social media. The problem is that every market is a bit different.
Anyway, getting online and setting up profiles is a good start.
Now it is time to connect with people. Whether we admit it or not, the internet is only as good as our ability to connect and communicate with people. The internet itself does nothing except hold our ideas so that others can find them.
You are very welcome. And thank you for your thoughts.
Take Care,
David B.
That's a wonderful blog entry, thanks for sharing. We just started a blog ourselves and I'm a complete newbie at this so kudos for such a good job on your blog.
I really liked your blog! LOL!
Thank you really. This is the information that I've been looking for.
