Barack Obama Social Media Platform Strategy – Twitter, Video and ScribD

by Brent on August 5, 2008

Welcome to our first weekly podcast. With these short audio programs we’ll take a quick look at some of the latest ways the Obama campaign is utilizing social tools and strategies to drive their campaign.

Today Obama sent out a tweet from Twitter announcing his new energy plan.

This one tweet shifted the entire campaign in terms of use of social media application…

Barack Obama\'s Twitter page

Obama used Twitter to share with his followers where they could see a video where he talks about his new policy:

He also included a link to the actual document that was uploaded to his ScribD account:

ScribD is a site where you can upload word documents, pdf files, powerpoints and many other kinds of content that gets listed by Google to be included in searches, thus increasing opportunities to drive traffic to your site.

One last thing to look at. When we did our first webinar a few weeks back, Obama was being followed by just over 44,000 people on Twitter. Today, according to TwitterCounter.com, he has just over 53,000 followers, a 20% increase:

Bernadette thank you so much for your kind words. We really appreciate it!

I went to your website and noticed you’re a graduate of Cheney University. My father and sister are both proud graduates of CU as well.

Continued success with your business, and please let us know if there’s an area of Obama’s social strategy that is of interest to you.

What was the total cost for Barack to accomplish his social media objective? Any ideas?
