Barack Obama Using Social Media Update - Online Fund Raising Statistics
The reports for the campaign are being published. There will be much “Monday Morning Quarterbacking” on how these online fund raising results were achieved.
As Brent Leary and I have been following this story from the very beginning, we have seen how these numbers grew week by week.
Per the story run by the Washington Post, this is a brief summary of the Obama Campaign online operations stats:
- 3 million online donors
- 6.5 million online donations adding up to more than $500 million.
- Of the 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in amounts of $100 or less.
- Upwards of 13 million addresses were captured
- More than 1 billion e-mails sent during the campaign
- Approximately 1 million mobile phone numbers collected
- 2 million profiles created on the My.BarackObama.com social network
- 5 million supporters on other social networking and multimedia sharing sites.
These are the fantastic results of the campaign, no doubt this will a topic of conversation for years to come.
The question is…
Now that you have seen power of traditional, social and internet marketing, what actions will you take to learn and use these available tools and concepts to successfully promote your business?
There are many lessons here hidden within this ultra successful campaign, if you have the distinctions to see them. Personally, I have learned more about marketing within the last 18 months than I have in the last 10 years. Experiencing the power of a well executed multi-channel campaign can change the way that you approach the promotion of your business.

David,
I love it! You're spot on that the political scene allows us as marketers to get a glimpse at the future of consumers & brands interacting. Thanks for such a great job detailing the marketing lessons from the 2008 campaign.

Dana:
Thanks for the input. I just checked your post. The Barack20 is Barack Obama + Web 2.0 => Barack20.com.
The market and marketing will be forever changed based on the strategy employed by the Obama 2008 campaign.
These are but a few of the many lessons that we were able to extract from the campaign. Again thanks for the feedback.
