The first presidential campaign to fully embrace the ideas and practices of social media has met with a successful end. Senator Barack Obama has been elected the 44th President of the United States of America.

This punctuates the successful use of social media for the promotion of a message into the marketplace. Communications has evolved.

It is not days to get a message via pony express. Now it is in an instant.

This is what social media is all about. This campaign is the product of superior multi-channel audio, video and text content distribution using new and traditional media platforms.

  • Getting the message out.
  • Keeping the message fresh.
  • Sticking to the story.
  • Tracking and staying in touch with the interested visitor.
  • Developing a worthwhile engaging relationship with those who can support you and your concerns.

These are just a few of the (many) lessons illustrated with this successful campaign. To all those that have taken the time to visit and comment as we moved with this case study - Thank You. We have learned much from this experience.

    Hi David,
I'm glad to have stumbled across your site and will be looking through your archives shortly.

The Obama team clearly demonstrated how to run a successful web 2.0 campaign.

I just posted a blog entry this morning about one example of how they used Conversion Rate Optimization to maximize their donations:

Did you end up speaking to BSD about what they learned through their Conversion Optimization tests? I'm interested in learning more about it.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,

Glad you found us. I will take a look at your post on your blog.

We did not speak with BSD about what they learned from their testing and conversion optimization. Our main topic of interest was the overall strategy and learnings in the area of social media and customer engagement. I may circle back with them to explore that topic as I suspect that they will have a considerable amount of data as well as significant learnings.

Thanks David. Please let me know if they're interested in speaking with the marketing community about it. I just finished up a week at the Googleplex at the Website Optimizer Authorized Consultant Summit and there's a lot of interest in the Obama campaign.

By the way, we added another post with info about the home page test they were running too:

This is all the info I can gather without talking to them about the campaign results. We're all eager to learn more, if possible.

It is good to know that you are using this information to create your own social media strategy. These methods work. It is just a matter of execution and implementation.

    The very best to you.
